Tolls and parking

Driving to Suncorp Stadium or the Gabba: event-day parking rules

In short

  • Neither stadium has public parking for event-goers. Suncorp Stadium's own advice is "no parking on event days", and the Gabba says there is no public parking at the ground.[1][4]
  • Around Suncorp Stadium, the Lang Park Traffic Area (about 1.5 km around the ground) generally limits street parking to 15 minutes from two hours before gates open until after the event.[1]
  • Around the Gabba, 15-minute limits apply in most of the Gabba Traffic Area on event days, covering streets in Woolloongabba, East Brisbane and Kangaroo Point.[4][6]
  • Most major event tickets include free travel on Queensland Rail city trains and Brisbane City Council buses; check your event on Translink before you go.[2][5]

Can you drive and park at Suncorp Stadium or the Gabba?

You can drive near them, but you can't park for the game. Both are run as public transport venues. Suncorp Stadium's parking page is headed "No parking on event days!", and its limited parking for people with disability is allocated by lottery.[1] The Gabba says plainly that there is no public parking at the ground, with a small number of accessible spaces across from Gate 5 on Duke Street for permit holders, first come, first served.[4]

That leaves three realistic plans if you have a car: park well outside the restricted area and take a train or bus in, have someone drop you off, or leave the car at home. Parking in the surrounding streets for the length of a match isn't one of them.

How do Suncorp Stadium's event-day parking limits work?

On event days, strict parking restrictions and penalties apply in the Lang Park Traffic Area, which extends about 1.5 km from the stadium.[1] Unless a sign says otherwise, 15-minute limits generally apply in its streets from two hours before the gates open until after the event. Some zones near businesses and restaurants allow longer, time-limited parking, and fines are issued on the spot.[1]

Brisbane City Council puts large signs on each traffic area's boundary explaining the conditions, and a signed restriction on a particular street overrides the area-wide rule.[3] Residents with permits are exempt, which is why you'll see cars parked all day in streets you can't use. Gate times vary by event, so the 15-minute window starts at a different time for each game; check the event page.[1]

And around the Gabba?

The Gabba Traffic Area takes in streets in Woolloongabba, East Brisbane and Kangaroo Point. On event days you can only park for 15 minutes there, unless you hold a resident or visitor permit, and street signs inside the area override the area-wide conditions.[6] The Gabba describes the limits as applying across most of the traffic area on major event days.[4]

If you're being dropped off or collected, the Gabba's designated points are on Princess Street, Potts Street and Hubert Street, with an accessible drop-off near Gate 5 on Linton Street, near Duke Street.[5] Pick a meeting point a few blocks away after the game, where the driver can stop legally, rather than circling the ground.

Does your ticket include public transport?

Usually, yes. Council says free bus and train travel is included in tickets for most major events.[3] The details differ by venue and event:

Free travel with event tickets (venue pages, read 5 November 2026)
VenueWhat's coveredWhen
Suncorp Stadium[2]Queensland Rail city network trains (not Airtrain) and Transport for Brisbane buses; show your ticket when you boardFrom 4 hours before the main game kick-off to 4 hours after the game ends
The Gabba[5]Queensland Rail city network trains (not Airtrain), Council buses and special event shuttles, within the Brisbane City Council areaCheck Translink for your event; shuttles run from 2 hours before

For Suncorp Stadium, Milton station is about 700 m from the venue and Roma Street station about 1 km, and extra trains run on all lines after the game.[2] Special event shuttle buses run to Suncorp from the City, Carindale, Eight Mile Plains (Garden City), Chermside and The Gap for 2 hours before the start.[2] For the Gabba, free shuttles run on major event days from Brisbane City, Carindale, Chermside and Eight Mile Plains, and Woolloongabba station serves the ground.[4][5]

Getting home is the slow part. After a Suncorp game, shuttle passengers walk to their bus departure point, and high-frequency buses run for an hour.[2] If you'd rather cycle part of the way, Suncorp Stadium has bike racks on its North and South Plazas.[2] At the Gabba, the footpath between platform 2 and Main Street is closed for Cross River Rail construction, so use the pedestrian overpass, which has lifts and stairs.[5]

A plan for driving most of the way

If you live or stay somewhere without a handy train, drive to a station car park outside the restricted areas and catch the train in. Translink's park 'n' ride car parks can be used from the first to the last service of the day, and train station car parks are run by Queensland Rail.[7] Leave extra time on event days, both to park and to get on a train. Which car parks are on which line is in park and ride in Brisbane.

If you're keeping a Rentzy car for a few months, a weekend game is exactly the kind of trip it gets used for. Event nights also bring road closures and heavy traffic around the city; for the Ekka at the Showgrounds see driving to the Ekka, and for the inner-city river precinct see parking at South Bank. Any parking fine during a rental is yours under clause 10 of the rental terms.
