- At the time of writing (November 2026) it charges up to $39 a day, with a $20 weekday early bird (in before 9.30am, out before 7pm) and a flat $12 on Monday to Thursday nights.[1]
- Collecting the car after 1am costs an $80 let-out fee, and overnight parking is $78.[1]
- For QPAC, the Performing Arts car park (P1) off Stanley Place is closest: $20 casual or $26.50 pre-paid, open 7am to midnight, 2.0-metre height limit.[3]
Where do you park at South Bank?
There are two clusters of public car parks. At the Parklands end, the South Bank car park sits under Little Stanley Street at the corner of Tribune Street, with entries from Tribune Street and Glenelg Street.[1][2] At the Cultural Centre end, the Queensland Government's car parks under the arts precinct serve QPAC, the Queensland Museum, the Art Gallery, GOMA and the State Library, reached via Stanley Place.[3]

QPAC also points visitors to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre car park, a short walk away, as an alternative.[3]

Friday nights are priced by the hour, from $17 for the first hour up to the $39 cap.[1] Early bird parkers must use Lower Level B2, where cameras validate the rate. You pay at the stations near the lifts and main stairwells before going back to the car, or by credit card at the exit gates. Monthly parking is offered too, by enquiry to the car park.[1]
Parking for a show at QPAC
At the time of writing, casual parking in the Cultural Centre car parks is $20 and pre-paid parking in P1 is $26.50. The pay stations are contactless and take Visa or Mastercard credit cards only, with no cash.[3]
Pre-paid P1 tickets are worth knowing about on a busy night: they can be used even when the "car park full" sign is lit, though they don't guarantee a particular space. They go on sale until 7am on the day, are valid only for the date and entry time booked, and aren't refunded if unused. Evening tickets allow entry from 5pm; daytime tickets let you exit up to 90 minutes after the performance ends.[3]
If someone is dropping you off instead, there are passenger zones on both sides of Grey Street, and an accessible drop-off zone on Russell Street near the Playhouse. P1 has 16 accessible spaces, first come, first served.[3]
Is there street parking at South Bank?
Some, on metered streets, but it's limited and short-stay. Brisbane City Council prices its meters by zone: Zone 1 is the CBD, Zone 2 the city fringe, Zone 3 the rest of Brisbane; check the zone and time limit shown on the meter or sign.[4] At the time of writing, a Zone 2 meter of 3 hours or less costs $4.95 an hour on weekdays from 7am to 7pm and $3.45 an hour on weekends; meters take cards or the CellOPark and PayStay apps, and you enter the number plate rather than display a ticket.[4]
Parking is free after 7pm on Saturdays and Sundays in all zones. On weeknights in Zones 1 and 2, it's free after 7pm only where the meter allows 4 hours or more.[4] For a long visit, a car park is usually simpler than moving the car to beat a meter limit.
When is the train or bus easier?
South Bank is one of the easiest places in Brisbane to reach without a car. South Bank and South Brisbane stations are both on Grey Street, the busway stops at South Bank and Cultural Centre, and CityCats stop at the South Bank terminal on the Clem Jones Promenade.[2] At the time of writing, Translink fares are 50 cents a trip across South East Queensland trains, buses and Brisbane City ferries, Airtrain excluded.[5]
On big event days, such as Riverfire, streets around the car parks close for most of the day, so the train is the realistic choice; see driving and parking for Riverfire. If you're driving from the north side, park and ride in Brisbane shows where to leave the car at a station.
Parking a rental car underground
Across the river, parking in Brisbane's CBD covers Council's city car parks and meters.
